Today, let’s talk about politely declining in Italian.
You don’t always have to agree to everything. It seems obvious, but many people forget that. If you don’t want another slice of cake, to drink alcohol, eat meat, go to dinner with a friend, or dance with your Italian girlfriends… just say so! But how do you do it politely?
Here is a short list of phrases that are universal and will fit almost any situation. Pick three or four and learn them.
It’s possible your first refusal won’t be enough.
– No, grazie.
– Preferisco di no.
– Purtroppo non posso.
– Mi dispiace, ma non posso.
